Afraid or Concerned?

I am not afraid of the coronavirus but I am very concerned about how people are behaving. But then I have to remind myself they are living in fear and that is what makes people behave irrationally.

What can I do?

Right now, there are many things I cannot do. But I am going to focus on the things I can do to help calm the rising tide of fear.

I can pray.

I can listen to others.

I can share with others.

I can encourage others.

I can do what I can to keep myself healthy.

I can wash my hands with soap and water.

I can use this opportunity to share why I am at peace.

I can thank God for this opportunity to regroup and reprioritize.

I can love on my friends and family.

Thank you, Jesus!

Psalm 46

God is our refuge and strength,
    an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
    and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam
    and the mountains quake with their surging.

4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
    the holy place where the Most High dwells.
God is within her, she will not fall;
    God will help her at break of day.
Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
    he lifts his voice, the earth melts.

The Lord Almighty is with us;
    the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Come and see what the Lord has done,
    the desolations he has brought on the earth.
He makes wars cease
    to the ends of the earth.
He breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
    he burns the shields with fire.
10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
    I will be exalted among the nations,
    I will be exalted in the earth.”

11 The Lord Almighty is with us;
    the God of Jacob is our fortress.

  1. This virus concerns me, am I afraid of it, yes , a little, I am 66 years old and live with a chronic respiratory illness, this could prove to be nasty. But the key word here is “could”. I can and am doing everything possible to stay as far away from it as possible, including the standard recommendations, I use a cool mist evaporative humidifier in my home, 24 hours a day. Why? simple, dry mucous membranes become irritated, then bleed and are more susceptible to becoming infected. Moist mucous membranes are more resistant and they are a little “runnier” What is not there can’t hurt you! That snotty nose that runs a little, clear mucus keeps things out! Why bother to wash your hands when the direct entry , your nose can’t wash itself out? Works great with everyone , especially those precious babies! HINT , HINT! I am concerned about the panic buying, a lot of groceries are not available there are only two larger grocery stores available here, a few convenience stores here and there. The distance to the next. nearest large store is either 80 miles round trip or 100 miles round trip, both unavailable if it snows, translation if there isn’t anything available we do without for several days. It can be a burden or worse. Living here isn’t for the faint of heart. Yet people have been driving up here to stock up , stripping the shelves bare , leaving the residents with nothing. The selfishness and panic are disgusting. they bring with them the increased possibility of contaminating the locals with CoViD19 and we have extremely limited health care here, if there is a patient in need of critical care and it snows there are not any alternatives, transporting a patient by ground or air ambulance can be impossible. I think of my friend Jim who suffered a major stroke during an intense snow storm, we were isolated for days, nobody in nobody out. Had it been able to transport him to a large hospital he could have had a medication that would have dissolved the clot. Instead he suffered permanent brain damage, he and his wife lost their home because he was unable to,work, Sue can only work part time because she has to care for Jim, then she had to euthanize her horse because she did n’t have any money to pay for an acute illness that Sugar had, Sugar was Sue’s only happiness in this whole sad story. What the point of all this is, people are panicking,there is cause for being vigilant, but there isn’t any need to spread panic. The shortages we are experiencing are magnified by those who refuse to listen, stop, think and become part of the solution, not part of the problem. Well after this long discourse, it is important,take care of yourselves friends, wash your hands well, and don’t be afraid to reach out and help someone who could be greatly affected by this disease. Take care dear friends, I keep thinking of this passage from our life’s book of directions , the Bible, “this too shall pass.”
